e-Administration Think Tank

Funded by: JISC, June 2007

Project Aims

JISC recently coordinated a national Think Tank on e-Administration, facilitated by Netskills staff Rob Allen, Helen Blanchett and Will Allen. The event aimed to discuss and contribute to the JISC e-administration agenda, supporting universities and colleges in their use of ICT for administrative activities and organisational processes. Two key objectives of this agenda are:

  • To increase the efficiency of administrative processes within institutions
  • To lessen the administrative burden faced by all staff during this process

Project Outputs

The Think Tank was supported by a pre-event questionnaire, which led to the 4 key themes for the day:

  1. Data and Information Management
  2. System Standardisation and Flexibility
  3. Change Management in Relation to Roles and Responsibilities
  4. Self-Service Culture, Personalisation and Control

Held at Regents College, London, 40 invited experts attended the day, representing the JISC executive and committees, and key stakeholder groups including the AUA, UCISA and SCONUL.

Further Work

The event enabled a wide ranging discussion between stakeholders on the key topics of interest and the current issues. The outputs from the Think Tank have enabled JISC to prepare a new programme of work supporting administrative aspects of institutions. An article for the AUA newsletter on the Think Tank has been written, and a JISC publication on the e-Administration work is being prepared.
