Devolving Diasporas Research Database Project

Netskills is supporting an AHRC-funded research project based in the School of English at Newcastle University, designing and developing a web-based database for their research output.

The project is titled Devolving Diasporas: Migration and Reception in Central Scotland, 1980 – present and considers literary works produced by migrant authors and questions how such works are received by people in central Scotland. The project will also highlight the works and writings of diasporic communities in the area and will produce a database of such works and performances.

Netskills was consulted for the original project bid and contributed to the technical aspects of the application to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The outcome was announced in August 2006 and the project was awarded a full grant. The project is now well under way with Netskills contributing their expertise to design and develop a database to store the records of diasporic literature and performances.

We will also develop the web application to allow the project researchers at Newcastle and Stirling Universities to manipulate the data and to make it available via their public project website.
