NVivo - Software for qualitative data analysis
NVivo is a quick and easy tool for storing and retrieving data. It provides the tools to manage data, create codes and search text to aid the analysis of data. This workshop will focus on introducing the primary tools available through NVivo which can assist qualitative researchers in managing and analysing data.
Topics:
- Brief introduction to the key features of NVivo
- Beginning a new project
- Organising data and creating links
- Using tools to create codes
- Using word searches - and their advantages and disadvantages
- Introduction to the principles of code organization - creating attributes and themes nodes
Who is it for?
This course is for anyone undertaking qualitative research (for example postgraduate students, academics and research staff) who would like to use software to assist them to organise, retrieve and analyse qualitative data. A basic understanding of Microsoft word and qualitative data analysis would be helpful.
A basic understanding of Microsoft word and qualitative data analysis would be helpful. We encourage attendees to bring their own sample data for use during the exercises.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- Opened and begun to develop a project from scratch in NVivo 7
- Explored the tools NVivo offers to help researchers organise, retrieve and manage data
- Created codes and searched the text using the word search tools
- Started to understand the principles of code organisation and applied these to data
