Technology Enhanced Collaborative Learning

Students today have increasingly high expectations about how technology can support their studies. Many will come to your institution already armed with their own web-enabled devices and fluent in the use of social networking. This workshop explores how you might use collaborative tools to achieve greater levels of student satisfaction, engagement and retention and enhance communication between learners and their lecturers and tutors.

Topics:

  • Blogs, wikis and beyond: Using collaborative tools for group work
  • The different choices available for improving communication between learners and teaching staff.
  • Exploring examples of effective practice
  • How to manage effective online communication with your learners
  • Helping distance and placement learners get the most out your teaching

By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • Reflected on student expectations of the learning experience
  • Explored a range of tools for communication and collaboration and discussed their effectiveness
  • Examined a range of case studies of effective practice using technology to support the student experience and related this to their own work
  • Investigated a 5-step approach to moderating student online communication in a learning context
  • Developed a list of actions to take back to their institution
