Creating a More Powerful Web Using RDFa
Netskills Training Suite, Herschel Building, Newcastle University
In this workshop we explore the benefits of a more semantic web and how you can use RDFa to enhance the discoverability, usability and popularity of your online resources.
The relative importance of a web page, compared to the information in it, is evolving. Today we rely upon search engines to interpret page content and links between web pages, guiding users to their goals with ranked search results. Increasingly, semantic information is being added to web content to provide extra meaning and clarify the relationship between resources. This leads to a richer web of information that can be effectively searched and navigated. RDFa (Resource Description Framework in attributes) is the key standard for adding semantic data to web content.
Topics:
- How RDFa fits in to the evolution of the web
- How richer semantics in content enable new kinds of "mash ups"
- The implications for a much more powerful web
- Practical details of using RDFa with your content
Who is it for?
Web content creators and authors who wish to add value to their content and enable it to be found and used more widely. This course is of particular interest to those managing large data repositories who wish to improve access. Anyone wishing to add effective metadata to their web site will benefit from the course.
