Fundamentals of Flash Animation and Interactivity with Macromedia Flash 5
Increasingly, web designers now wish to incorporate more than text and static images in their sites. Macromedia Flash provides a means of creating animated and interactive content that is optimised for web delivery. This can include relatively simple elements, such as animated text, images and buttons, as well as more sophisticated multimedia applications, such as tutorials and simulations.
Topics:
- An overview of the Macromedia Flash 5 interface
- Creating and controlling animation using motion and shape 'tweening'
- Creating interactive elements using built-in ActionScript functions
- Using layers, guide layers and mask layers
- Re-usable content using symbols and libraries
- Managing Flash assets with the library and movie explorer
- Optimising Flash movies for delivery via the world wide web
- Accessibility of Flash movies and other issues
Who is it for?
This is a practical workshop aimed at web users who would like to start using Flash to create animated and interactive content for the web.
Participants should have previously used the World Wide Web through a browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. Experience of using Microsoft Windows for opening and saving files and opening and closing applications such as a web browser would be helpful. Experience of using other Macromedia products and of image editing software would also be helpful. Note that this workshop does NOT require programming skills from participants and is not designed to provide competency in advanced ActionScript programming.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- Investigated examples of how Flash can be used on the web
- Become familiar with the interface of Macromedia Flash 5
- Created animations using motion and shape tweening
- Explored the use of symbols as re-usable content
- Used layers to control the stacking order of movie content
- Created interactive movies using built-in ActionScript commands
- Created, imported and modified graphics
- Published Flash movies in formats suitable for use on the web
