Online Learning for ACL Practitioners
This practical workshop is aimed at E-Guides, and intends to provide ACL staff with experience of locating, using and creating online learning resources. The day will be complemented by post-workshop online activities.
The workshop and online activities will give staff an opportunity to experience online learning first-hand and to take part in both face-to-face and online sessions to discuss the issues and identify the best way forward for their own learners. As the workshop aims to provide the basis for future staff development activities in the sector, there will be emphasis on discussion and exchange of views and experiences.
Topics:
- Key concepts and issues in online learning
- Overview of online learning resources and where to find them
- Online communication tools and their potential uses in ACL
- Effective use of online communication tools, through practical sessions during and after the workshop
- Simple methods of creating and hosting web-based learning resources
Who is it for?
The programme is targeted at people who have been trained as E-Guides via the NIACE programme, but also at others involved in the implementation of e-Learning in ACL. Given the wide diversity of ACL provision, in terms of curriculum, mode of delivery, and ICT facilities available, the workshop aims to provide a flexible approach to enable participants to focus on their key interests.
Basic computer skills such as using a mouse and keyboard are essential, together with experience of using a web browser. The workshop builds on and develops knowledge and skills acquired from the E-Guides training programme.
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- Critically evaluated a wide range of web-based learning resources
- Gained experience of using different online communications tools
- Explored some simple content creation tools and learning platforms
- Shared views and identified key issues and future training needs
- Prepared for participation in post-workshop online activities
