Web Accessibility
Unit Number: NW08
Programme Value: 30 Credits
Offered Under: Award, Certificate and Diploma in Web Development
Overview
Web accessibility affects many different users- not just the visually impaired. Differing physical and cognitive abilities, and equipment other than a standard graphical web browser, should not be a barrier to web usage. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) is an initiative to encourage designers to develop accessible web site content and drives much of the current legislation including the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) and the Disabilities and Discrimination Act (DDA).
This unit focuses on the use of these and other best practice guidelines to show how web content can be delivered in useable and accessible formats.
