About Netskills

Dave Hartland Director

Dave Hartland is the Director of Netskills and helped establish the service in 1995. He has experience in every aspect of Netskills' work including developing web and internet related training materials and running training courses, as well as management responsibility for the Netskills team.

Since establishing Netskills, initially as a fully funded JISC service, he has gained experience in:

Netskills is now a dynamic, expanding, largely self funded, training and staff development service.

Dave has worked with a wide range of sectors including HE, FE, adult education, the library sector, NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations), local and national government departments and commercial companies across the UK.

He has an international reputation having provided training programmes in a number of countries for example; the USA, Switzerland, Hungary, Japan and Malaysia. Other international experience includes:

He has regularly provided presentations at national conferences including UCISA User Support Conference, UCISA Management Conference, JANET User Support Workshop, and the Institutional Web Managers Workshop.

Before joining Netskills Dave graduated from Newcastle University in 1991 with a BA in Politics and Economics. He then completed an MSc in Computing Science leading to the post of User Support Officer for the Mailbase national email discussion service, based at Newcastle University and funded by the JISC (1991-1995).

Prior to University Dave worked for the Sports Council in London providing a wide range of sports courses and coaching programmes in deprived London boroughs. He maintains his sporting interests playing football, running, supporting Newcastle Falcons rugby club and climbing mountains in the Highlands.
