Carl has been developing and managing the IT infrastructure systems at Netskills since joining 1997. After starting with system administration and application development, his portfolio has grown to include web development and project management (as a PRINCE2 practitioner).

Carl has worked at Netskills after graduating from Newcastle University with a MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, where he'd developed his skills and interest in systems design and analysis. He is enthusiastic and about simple, modular systems to solve problems and is particularly fond of open source and standards-based solutions.

Recent projects:

  • Managed and worked on a project to migrate the JISC Advance web site to a new host and content management system.
  • Project managed a project to support and restructure the website of the Newcastle University school of Geography, Politics and Sociology.
  • Software developer on the Supporting Training, CPD and Staff Exchange for BCE Practitioners project for JISC.
  • Managed and worked on the migration of all Netskills server hardware to virtualised systems.
  • Chaired a group of web site managers from JISC Advance services to agree on common standards for measuring and reporting usage.

In his spare time Carl sails and helps out at the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club, as well as enjoying cycling both on and off-road. In any time left he helps tend the family allotment.
