Postgraduate students at the University of Southampton are the first outside Newcastle to receive dedicated training from Netskills.
The two-day workshop Harnessing the Web for Researchers was delivered to second and third year postgraduates from the School of Biological Sciences in late September. Dr Malcolm East, who organised the training, said, "This Netskills workshop contributes to the training we offer at Southampton in line with the Roberts' agenda. The students who attended were really positive about the two days and have produced some excellent web pages. In fact, after seeing the students' web sites, staff in the school have asked if they can attend the next workshop in January as well!"
Netskills trainer Will Allen has developed the postgraduate training programme. He said, "The sessions I received as a postgraduate student were very theoretical and my hope is that Netskills can offer postgrads some of the training I wish I'd had! We started by piloting the programme in Newcastle and are now ready to launch it nationwide."
One attendee from Southampton commented, "This workshop was really useful - it was particularly good that you produce your own functioning web site within the course time itself" and another enthusiastically stated, "It was amazingly brilliant, I can't believe writing web pages can be this interesting!"
