Digital storytelling inspiration for learning and teaching

Netskills' digital storytelling expert Chris Thomson was invited to talk about the power of stories at an annual Digital Creativity event in London last week.

Organised jointly by JISC Regional Support Centres (RSC) London and Eastern, the event was aimed at people in further education institutions interested in creating digital media for learning and teaching.

Chris's session, Introducing Digital Storytelling, gave the audience an overview of what can be achieved by using storytelling to enhance learning.

Participants also got a chance to start creating their own stories as well as hearing about some of the free web-based tools available.

The aim of the session was to get people thinking about potential use cases and the benefits of using storytelling, Chris said.

We're not going to make digital storytelling experts out of anyone in an hour and a half but we can inspire and spark ideas and conversations.

There seemed to be plenty of people thinking how they could put these ideas into practice. It’s always very satisfying to see people coming up with their own ideas and asking lots of questions.

The next Netskills Digital Storytelling workshop will run in Birmingham on 4 July.
