Introducing a range of storytelling techniques and technologies, a new Netskills’ workshop looks at how digital storytelling can enhance teaching and learning.
Rapid development in web technologies and the increasing availability of the tools has made digital storytelling a hot topic. According to Consultant Trainer Chris Thomson, this is an ideal time to take a look at the value of storytelling as a pedagogic tool.
The concept of digital storytelling has been around for a while but the ready accessibility to the tools means that it’s now more relevant than ever
, he said.
Digital storytelling, by definition, is using any digital media to communicate ideas and stories in an engaging way. For example, enhancing the understanding of a poem by combining text, images and music using digital tools, or explaining a complex scientific concept.
In his previous position, Chris has been involved in a number of digital storytelling projects in schools and with adult learners. He has seen the numerous benefits and proven track record of digital storytelling.
There have been some really good examples of best practices. The new workshop will be focusing on why storytelling as an idea is such a powerful tool in teaching and learning for any subject.
The emphasis will be on how you can structure activities around storytelling and how to record and assess the learning that happens around that.
There are currently two digital storytelling workshops available. The first one will take place on 5 November in Newcastle followed by the second one in London on 17 November.
