Last month Netskills' Will Allen and Steve Boneham supported the RCE East Midlands' annual e-fair at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester, providing four stations in the Learner Voice Hub.
Demonstrating Netskills' Web2practice guides, Will and Steve advised delegates on how to utilise web technologies, specifically social media, blogging, microblogging and podcasting, to capture the Learner Voice in their own organisation.
Also contributing to the Learner Voice Hub from JISC Advance were JISC Legal and JISC Digital Media.
Buzzing interest
According to Will there is a growing interest towards the use of Web 2.0 technologies in higher and further education.
"It was good to see our Web2practice guides, in both animation and printed form, being enthusiastically explored by the delegates," he said. "We also had a number of longer discussions with attendees keen to find out more about the technologies and their possible applications."
Kevin Spencer, e-fair organiser from RCS East Midlands, said it was great to have the Netskills duo come along to the event to share their knowledge and expertise of Web 2.0 tools.
"The Web2practice guides gave delegates a really good quick introduction into a number of web technologies and how they could be used to capture Learner Voice," he said. “The hub seemed to be buzzing with activity throughout the day."
A new approach to skills development
The Web2practice guides implement a new approach to skills development, providing succinct practical guidance and examples of innovative practice by early adopters.
"Web2practice has had a great response since it was released about a year ago," Steve said. “The videos have had a few thousand views and it’s been great to see they’ve also been re-purposed for use in a different context by some users.”
