News: Effective online resources workshop a maximised success

Netskills workshops focusing on maximising the effectiveness of online resources attracted full audiences in April and June.

The two-day workshop, which provides a comprehensive overview on the latest tools and trends on the web, engaged attendees from a wide range of roles – from marketing and web development to librarianship.

George Munroe, the lead trainer delivering the workshops, said that feedback has been incredibly encouraging.

“Having just completed the third workshop I'm delighted that every participant appears to have gained real value from the experience.”

Not just conventional SEO

According to George, there is much more to getting maximum value from an online resource than conventional search engine optimisation.

“We’ve observed unabated interest in using social media to engage audiences as well as the rising attention given to ‘linked data’ and aspirations for fuller metadata insertion in web content using RDFa.”

The next workshop of the series will take place in Belfast on 14-15 September. Places are still available, however, early booking is advisable.

Case studies to follow

The workshops are part of a project being delivered by Netskills for the JISC Strategic Content Alliance, a three year initiative funded as part of JISC’s capital programme.

As well as delivering further workshops, the project team will also produce case studies later this year to disseminate the ways in which people have implemented techniques to ensure the effectiveness of their online resources.

Steve Boneham from Netskills said:

“It’s great to keep in touch with people after the workshops and to hear how they’ve gone about applying things they’ve learned.” Steve added, “Of course, the case studies will be really useful for people who couldn’t attend on the day.”
